Major-General Sir Frederick Barton Maurice
Major-General Sir Frederick Barton Maurice, 1st Baronet GCB GCMG GCVO DSO (19 January 1871 19 May 1951), British general, military correspondent, writer and academic. He was famously forced to resign his commission in May 1918 after writing a letter to The Times criticizing Prime Minister David Lloyd George for making misleading statements about the strength of British forces in France. He also founded the British Legion in 1920, and served as its president from 1932 to 1947 Pictured by Lieutenant Percival Anderson in the Tatler just a couple of months before his resignation..
