Auxiliary London firemen at drill on a fireboat, WW2
Auxiliary London firemen (AFS) under instruction in the use of a rocket-line as part of their fireboat drills and training. The rocket-line was a flare-type gun which fired a rocket, with a thin line attached, from the fireboat to the shore or vice-versa, to which a stronger line would then be attached. That bigger line could then haul fire hose, connected to the fireboat, to shore and supply water to land based pumps fed from the river via the fireboats pumps
