Lieutenant Colonel S. F. Newcombe
Lieutenant Colonel S.F. Newcombe (1878-1956) in March 1917 - A friend of T.E. Lawrence (Lawrence of Arabia) who served in the Second Boer War. At the end of 1916 he was appointed Chief of the British Military Mission in the Hejaz and played a key role in the Arab Revolt. In 1917 Newcombe was captured by the Turks and was held a Prisoner of war but escaped and went into hiding in Constantinople. Date: 1917
