Leicesters Roman remains excavated, 1936
Drawing by Alan Sorrell of excavations in progress in the city of Leicester in 1936 led by Kathleen Kenyon. The excavated Roman remains were initially thought by Kenyon to be a Roman forum, with the Roman-era Jewry Wall beside the site part of a basilica. However, later excavations showed that the site was probably a bath complex and the Jewry Wall part of that. The Illustrated London News in 1937 reports the find as the forum. Date: 1936
