L Oeuvre de Gustave Tery publie Le Feu notes d un combattant par Henri Barbusse. Soldiers at the battlefront. Gustave Tery was editor and publisher of the Parisian daily newspaper l Oeuvre. He was one of the most brilliant writers of editorial opinions in France. The l Oeuvre was an independent newspaper with socialistic tendencies. It mostly contained commentary on the principal events of the day. Henri Barbusse (1874-1935) was a French writer and his best known novel was Le Feu. Barbusse served in the war as a private in an infantry regiment and was cited twice for bravery. After the war he became a correspondent for the Socialist newspaper L Humanite and became an ardent pacifist. About that time he, along with others, founded the Republican Association of Former Combatants, which was largely responsible for the split in the French Socialist party resulting in the organization of the Communist party in 1920.
