View of an English kitchen in 1846 showing a cook or servant in front of a dresser with an impressive display of plates and crockery. The painter, George Scharf, was born in Mainburg, Bavaria in 1788. He earned a living painting miniatures during the Napoleonic Wars and settled in England in 1816 where he set about composing an amazing collection of records in watercolours of all the important and interesting sights of the time. The kitchen in the painting was his own. Date: 1939
