Kate Ma Meyrick (1875 -1933), an Irish business woman and Queen of the London nightclub scene. She ran " 43", a late-night jazz club at 43 Gerrard Street in Soho, was prosecuted several times for breaching licensing laws and went to prison for bribing policemen to ignore these breaches. Her book Secrets of the 43 was banned on its publication in 1933. Three of her daughters married peers of the realm. Pictured here in 1928 after being released from Holloway Prison after a six month sentence, accompanied by her daughter Irene, the Countess of Kinnoull. Date: 1928
