Japanese army cross Singapore causeway
Japanese forces cross the causeway from Malaya to Singapore. Malaya had been taken from the retreating British and Commonwealth forces at the end of January 1942. This link with the mainland had been partly destroyed by the retreating forces but did not delay the Japanese invasion force for long. Singapore was surrendered on 15 February Date: February 1942
