Framed Print of Indian Maharajahs offering support to Britain in First World
On the left, Lieutenant-General MAHARAJA SRI SIR PRATAP SINGH SAHIB BAHADUR OF IDAR (1845 - 1922). A career British Indian Army soldier, Maharaja of the princely state of Idar and heir to Ahmednagar from 1902 to 1911, when he abdicated in favor of his adopted son. A warrior of the British Empire, was a friend to Queen Victoria, serving as aide-de-camp to Edward VII and was a close friend of the future King George V. On the right, Colonel, Sir Ganga Singh, The MAHARAJAH OF BIKANER (1880-1943), who raised and equipped a camel corps. He was colonel in the 2nd Bengal Lancers, fought for the British in China and was mentioned in despatches. He was the only non-white member of the Imperial War Cabinet during the Great War. The Tatler notes he was also a fine sportsman, devoted to big-game shooting, and good at polo, racquets and tennis. Date: 1914. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame.
