Chester Swea' Pea NX8400H

Chester 'Swea' Pea' NX8400H formula one racer; race number 5 ca 1949 - Information: Art Chester of Chicago IL. Air Racing Chester designed and built the Chester 'Swee' Pea', NX8400H, in 1947. Powered by an 85hp Continental C85; span: 17'8" length: 16'0".Two of the midget racers were built; the Y-tailed 'Swee' Pea' NX8400H. 'Swee' Pea' was sold to Chester's mechanic, Lynn Kauffold and modified with a conventional tail as the 'Kauffold Sky Baby' (span: 18'6" length: 17'6"), with the registration losing the X as N8400H, flown by Bill Broadback, Lynn Kauffold and Paul Penrose. (A second aircraft was built with conventional tail, as the 'Swee' Pea II' N4000K, (a.k.a. 'ARC' from corporate name, Air Race Chester), which crashed at San Diego on 4/24/49, killing Art Chester)

Cosmic Wind 'Little Toni' N67888 low-wing monoplane formula one racer; race number 3 - Information: Conceived in 1947 by a consortium of Lockheed engineers and pilots and designed by Irven Culver, each of the Cosmic wind family was powered by an 85hp Continental C-85. Span: 19'6"; Length: 16'0". The 4 midget racers were constructed by Lockheed personnel in their own time: NX67888 N20C ?Little Toni, Flying Frenchman? piloted by Tony Levier and W F Robinson; NX67889 N21C ?Minnow? piloted by Herman "Fish" Salmon; N22C ?Ballerina? piloted by Vincent Ast, Robert B Downey and Glenn Fulkerson; N36C ?Miss Cosmic Wind? was completed as a mid-wing monoplane instead of with a low-wing

Ast Special N26C 'Shoestring' (aka Mercury Air) formula one racer. Race number 16 - Information: Designed and built in 1949 by Carl & Vincent Ast of Van Nuys CA for Rodney Kreimendahl. Powered by an 85hp Continental C85; span: 19'0" length: 17'8" max speed: 210mph, cruise speed : 180 mph stall speed : 65 mph. Piloted by Bob Downey); 1951 Won the Continental Trophy piloted by John Paul Jones. Restored in 1965 by Ray Cote with wing replacement in 1973 changing registration to N16V. Plans were marketed, and several copies are known to have been built
