WW1 - Monument in Reims, France French Colonial black troops. Designed by sculptor Moreau-Vauthier at the end of Henry Vasnier Boulevard alongside the Vranken-Pommery cellars, in recognition by the city of Reims of the African soldiers who defended the city ​​in 1918. This monument was inaugurated in 1924 with the support of 500 native performers who then participated in a great historical parade of the colonial army. In September 1940, the monument was dismantled by the occupying Nazi force, not only for reasons of race but also to recover the huge amount of bronze. The memorial to the heroes of the Black Army is now a simple white obelisk. Date: 1924

The Senator - Big Tree Park, Longwood, Florida, USA - the biggest and oldest bald cypress tree in the world 125 feet (38 m) tall at the time of its demise, with a trunk diameter of 17.5 feet (5.3 m). The tree was thought to have been destroyed by a fire from a lightning strike, but it was later discovered that the fire was started by an arsonist. Estimated to be 3, 500 years old, making it the 5th oldest tree in the world. Date: 1940s
