WW1 - Monument in Reims, France French Colonial black troops

WW1 - Monument in Reims, France French Colonial black troops. Designed by sculptor Moreau-Vauthier at the end of Henry Vasnier Boulevard alongside the Vranken-Pommery cellars, in recognition by the city of Reims of the African soldiers who defended the city in 1918. This monument was inaugurated in 1924 with the support of 500 native performers who then participated in a great historical parade of the colonial army. In September 1940, the monument was dismantled by the occupying Nazi force, not only for reasons of race but also to recover the huge amount of bronze. The memorial to the heroes of the Black Army is now a simple white obelisk. Date: 1924
