Kid Lewis and Oswald Mosley

Kid Lewis, triple boxing champion and ex-holder of the world welterweight title who stood as a New Party candidate in Whitechapel, East London. Pictured posing with the New Party leader, Sir Oswald Mosley at a luncheon given at the Caf'oyal where Mosley and Lewis outlined a club movement in which sport and politics were to play a prominent part. The New Party, formed by Oswald Mosley, was a political party formed in 1931 after Mosley resigned from the Labour party. Based on the Mosley Memorandum, the Party sought to establish a national policy to meet the economic crisis brought about by the Great Depression. After touring Europe, Mosley became an advocate of Fascism and formed the British Union of Fascists in 1932. Date: 1931

New style jumper - 1919 ladies clothing advertisement

Advertisment for the new style jumper in cashmere available from Greensmith Downes & Son of George Street, Edinburgh. During the 1920s, the popularity of the jumper increased, at first in a kind of tunic form before gradually evolving into the kind of jumper we recognise today. It was part of a move towards more casual, sports-influenced dressing in the post-WWI era.
