Women War Work WW1 Munitions
A painting of a munitions worker by Edith Harwood (1894-C1916) wearing the blue uniform of overalls and bonnet, the woman holds, with gloved hands, a shell, possibly made at the Royal Arsenal Woolwich. Three small inscriptions to the bottom of the painting read, Painted by Edith Harwood, Florence, Italy. Mary Harwood, Maker of Munitions, London 1916. For R.J. Harwood, Boston, Lincolnshire. The painting has an ornate gothic style wooden frame with incised columns, fleur de lys and foliage decoration in gold. Date: 1916
