Scouts during Wartime

Their Scout Son Died Doing Air Raid Good Deed: Awarded Scout's V.C. Thirty Scouts - all air raid heroes - attended a presentation ceremony at Bermondsey, London, when Silver Crosses for gallantry during air raids were awarded. One of the bravest of them all was not there - his good turn in helping others had cost him his life. He was Scout Frank Davis, aged 17 years, of the 11th Bermondsey Troop, who died in performing the deed which won for him the Bronze Cross - the Scout's V.C. Davis was killed during an air raid shortly after rescuing a wounded fellow messenger. Mr and Mrs Davis receiving their brave son's award at the presentation ceremony. Date:

Some Barnardo's' Emigrants

A promotional picture showing some of the children from Barnardo's homes destined to emigrate to new lives overseas. In 1872, Thomas Barnardo's children's homes began sending children to Canada.
