Royal Wedding 1934 - pronouncing the benediction

Illustration depicting the pronouncement of the Benediction during the wedding ceremony of Prince George, Duke of Kent and Princess Marina of Greece, showing the Archbishiop of Canterbury with hand upraised above the heads of the bride and bridegroom. The Royal couple are kneeling on two beautifully embroidered cushions and the four and a half yard train of the new Duchess of Kent's wedding dress is held by Princess Elizabeth of York (the future Queen Elizabeth II) and Lady Mary Cambridge. On the extreme right and third from right are the Archbishop of York and the Dean of Westminster, both clad in copes of elaborate design. Date: 1934

Duke and Duchess of York 1931

At the Exposition Coloniale (Colonial Exhibition) in Paris, the Duke and Duchess of York are welcomed and presented with a bouquet of flowers by a group of dancers from French Indochina. Alongside the Duchess is the uniformed Marshal Lyautey, Commissioner-General of the exhibition, which was an attempt to showcase French colonial possessions and the people that lived in those territories. Date: 17 July 1931

Royal Wedding Presents at St Jamess Palace

A general view of the magnificent array of presents in the main salon, one of the three rooms in St. James's Palace to which the public were admitted. The gifts were given on the occasion of the wedding of Prince George, Duke of Kent to Princess Marina of Greece at Westminster Abbey on 29 November 1934. Altogether there were nearly a thousand gifts, guarded day and night by specially picked detectives. Among the donors were European and Asiatic Kings, Queens and Princes, disabled soldiers, servants on the Balmoral estate, corporations, guilds and members of the Services. Date: 1934
