Mrs Charles Sweeny as Astrae the Star-Maiden

Mrs Charles Sweeny, formerly Miss Margaret Whigham and later the Duchess of Argyll (1912 - 1993), pictured as Astrae, the Star-Maiden for the Olympian Party at Claridges on 5 March 1935 in aid of the Greater London Fund for the Blind. The Olympian Party featured a pageant of Olympians consisting of an entertainment of dancing and singing with orchestral accompaniment. Date: 1935

Womens cricket tour, 1935

English women cricketers touring Australia in 1935. The bottom right picture shows the England captain, Miss Betty Archdale adjusting her shin pads during practice. Right middle shows Miss Mary Taylor, whirlwind English bowler and bottom left picture depicts Miss Mollie Hide, a stylish English bat turning a ball from Mrs Blade to leg during her innings for 44 in the match against New South Wales at Sydney. Middle picture shows Miss Peggy Antonio who took five English wickets for a total of 24 runs in the first women's International cricket match between England and Victoria, at Melbourne. Date: 1935

Caricature of Charles Laughton (1899 - 1962), English character actor of stage and screen. Picture bestriding the Atlantic to indicate his success in both the UK and USA and clutching a number of dolls representing the characters he had played including Henry VIII, Nero, the murderer in Payment Deferred and Mr Moulton-Barrett in The Barretts of Wimpole Street'. Date: 1935
