Paris, France - Pont Alexandre III
Alexander III Bridge - Paris, France - built between 1896 and 1900. It is named after Tsar Alexander III, who had concluded the Franco-Russian Alliance in 1892. His son Nicholas II laid the foundation stone in October 1896. The style of the bridge reflects that of the Grand Palais, to which it leads on the right bank and which can be sen in the background of this postcard. Date: circa 1900

Ritten Plateau, Tyrol, Italy - Erdpyramids
The Renon/Ritten Plateau - the spectacular and bizarre Earth pyramids (Erdpyramids). The raw material for the earth pyramids comes from moraine clays deposited by the main Eisack valley glacier, as well as local tributary glaciers, in the late ice age. Date: circa 1910s

Queen Elisabeth of Romania playing the piano
Elisabeth of Wied, Queen Consort of Romania (1869-1914), the spouse of Carol I of Romania. Born Pauline Elisabeth Ottilie Luise zu Wied, also widely known by her literary name of Carmen Sylva. This wonderful postcard photograph of circa 1900, shows the Queen playing the piano with a small orchestra within the Royal Palace in Bucharest, Romania. Underneath in the Queen's own hand, is a passage from the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam, concluded with her signature. This is a further indicator of her literary interest at the time. Date: circa 1900
