GLC-LFB - Breakdown Lorry at Croydon HQ
The GLC-LFB was created on 1 April 1965. A series of photos was commissioned of each type of fire engine, either within or absorbed into the enlarged London Fire Brigade. The London Fire Brigade's only Breakdown Lorry is seen here at the Southern Command Headquarters fire station (Croydon). The Brigade maintained a breakdown lorry from the early 1900s: its attended major accidents and supplemented the emergency tender crews with its heavy hot-cutting equipment. It was taken out of service in the late 1970s

GLC-LFB - Dual purpose water-tender fire engine
The GLC-LFB was created on 1 April 1965. A series of photos was commissioned of each type of fire engine, either within or absorbed into the enlarged London Fire Brigade. The Dennis fire engine seen here came into London from the Surrey Fire Brigade, Surrey's fire engines did not carry the 50 foot wheeled escape ladder, but a 45 foot extension ladder (as shown). These fire engines were converted to carry wheeled escapes until the escape ladders were decommissioned in the mid-1980s. 13.5 metre (45 foot) extension ladders were reintroduced across the Brigade
