The new Hammersmith workhouse and infirmary on Du Cane Road, Hammersmith, West London, were opened in 1905 by Princess Henry of Battenberg. Designed by the firm of Giles, Gough and Trollope, the buildings were taken over in 1916 as the Military Orthopaedic Hospital. The site later became Hammersmith Hospital
