Greta Garbo
Greta Garbo (1905 - 1990), born in Stockholm and was spotted whilst studying at the Royal Theatre Dramatic School by the Swedish director Mauritz Stiller. Her first Hollywood film was The Temptress 1926. Amongst her other successes were, Queen Christina (1933), Anna Karenina (1935) and Ninotchka (1939). She retired from films in 1941, after receiving poor reviews for Two-Faced Woman. She spent the rest of her life living as a recluse in New York.
