The Graphic Christmas Number 1914 advertisement
An advertisement in the 12 December 1914 issue of The Graphic, advertising the Christmas Number of the same publication. Featured in the Christmas issue was an illustration by James Clark entitled, The Great Sacrifice, depicting a young soldier lying dead on the battlefield beside a vision of Christ on the cross. The picture proved hugely popular with many framed copies being hung in churches around the country. The original painting was purchased by Queen Mary and later given by her to Princess Beatrice, youngest daughter of Queen Victoria. Date: December 1914
