Grand Duchess Eleonore of Hesse, formerly Eleonore of Solms-Hohensolms-Lich (1871-1937), second wife of Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig of Hesse at home with her two sons, George Donatus (left) and Ludwig. This photograph was reproduced as a postcard for her charity, sold for Eleonorenheim, her orphanage, in 1915. Eleonore excelled at charity work and was president of the Frauenvereins (womens societies), originally established by Ernst Ludwigs mother, Princess Alice
