Grand Centrifugal Railway
Advertising flyer for the Grand Centrifugal Railway, an Extraordinary Novelty, 200 feet long, with a Virtical (sic) Circle, upwards of 40 feet in circumference. The centrifugal railway was an early form of rollercoaster, a loop-the-loop, on which a carriage of nearly 200lbs, containing a lady or gentleman, descends an inclined plane, passing round a vertical circle...turning the head of the individual downwards, and feet in the air...at the rate of 100 miles an hour. This attraction, the advert states, is just added to Dubourgs splendid exhibition of waxwork, at Great Windmill Street, Haymarket, London. Date: 1840s
