An American photograph of a German Hannover CL.II escort fighter biplane, brought down on its nose behind American lines north west of the heights of Montfaucon in the Argonne, eastern France, by American machine gunners during the First World War. The CL.II was introduced in 1917 and used during the latter part of the war. Date: 4 November 1918
