Framed Print of Squalo-raja (Spinacorhinus) polyspondila Agassiz
The fossil fish Squaloraja polyspondila Agassiz, by Charles Weber, from volume 3 of JLR Agassiz's Recherches sur les Poissons Fossiles'. This specimen was found by Mary Anning at the end of December 1829. The drawing only shows the front part of the fish - the original specimen was destroyed during World War Two - but the tail, which was found separately, survives in the Philpot collection now at Oxford University Museum of Natural History. Watercolour Date: 1835. Mary Evans Picture Library makes available wonderful images created for people to enjoy over the centuries. © The Geological Society / Mary Evans
