The Garden Grill at the May Fair Hotel
The Garden Grill Room restaurant at the newly opened May Fair Hotel in Stratton Street, Mayfair, London, which had the novel illusion that, no matter what the time of day, the lighting was always as if you were dining in an English country garden in brilliant sunlight. The staircase descended into an old stone courtyard, and realistic grass sprang up from crazy pavements with little pathways bordered with daisies running here and there. The entrance to the grill room itself was through a pair of wrought iron gates set in a high wall and the ceiling was painted to represent a summer sky. Date: 1927
