Stunt woman cannonball loses her knickers
Liza Knight, an 18-year-old stunt performer from Leicester, felt quite a draught after being shot from a cannon during a rehearsal. A jagged piece of metal in the barrel of the giant gun snagged her knickers and tracksuit bottoms, ripping them both to shreds. Seen here giving the thumbs up before the stunt. Date: 1973

Thumbs down
Thumbs down!. Illustration shows a skeleton labeled Death as a gladiator standing over a Sick Person; before giving the death stroke, the skeleton looks to the spectators seated in a section identified as Anti-Vivisectionists, who, holding their pets close, give the thumbs down signal. The emblem on their banner shows a hand about to snuff the flame on a lamp labeled Progress. Date 1911 June 7. Thumbs down!.
