A sumptuous costume drama, filmed partly in Venice, it was dazzlingly ambiguous, mildly risque and overwhelmingly stylish. It was released with the English title The Loves of Casanova. Date: 1927

A scene from Shakespeare's play, Henry VIII, in a production by Herbert Beerbohm Tree at His Majesty's Theatre, London. The production opened in 1910, was revived for the London Shakespeare Festival in 1911, and was repeated again in 1912. Tree played Cardinal Wolsey. Other actors were Violet Vanbrugh (Queen Katherine), Arthur Bourchier (King Henry) and Laura Cowie (Anne Bullen). This scene shows Henry and Anne in conversation, with the rest of the court looking on and gossipping. Wolsey sits in a chair on the far right. (1 of 6)
