WPC Lesley Moore, Metropolitan Police, Stanhope Gold Medal
The Stanhope Gold Medal of the Royal Humane Society, awarded to WPC Lesley Moore, Charing Cross Division, Metropolitan Police, London in January 1992, for showing great courage in helping a workman who had fallen 50 feet onto a sloping roof in Ryder Street SW1. Despite the dangerous location, Moore gave First Aid and resuscitation in strong winds, and used her tunic as a pillow for the injured man. After about an hour the Fire Brigade were able to secure the man and take him to hospital. Sadly, he died some days later. Date: circa 1992

Anne Stanhope, Countess of Chesterfield, from a painting by Van Dyck, reign of Charles I. . Handcolored engraving from Civil Costume of England from the Conquest to the Present Period drawn by Charles Martin and etched by Leopold Martin, London, Henry Bohn, 1842. The costumes were drawn from tapestries, monumental effigies, illuminated manuscripts and portraits. Charles and Leopold Martin were the sons of the romantic artist and mezzotint engraver John Martin (1789-1854)

Suffragette Flora Drummond Stanhope Toy
A Stanhope or optical toy, a device which allows the viewing of microphotographs without using a microscope. The stanhope was invented in 1857 by Rene Dagron, a French photographer. This example shows W.S.P.U General Flora Drummond wearing a Votes for Women sash and a hat. No makers name given but at the end of the tube the word FRANCE has been stamped. Date: circa 1908
