Scene from Joy Bells at the London Hippodrome

A picturesque scene from the popular Albert de Courville revue, Joy Bells, at the London Hippodrome in 1919 with Phyllis Bedells and chorus. The spring setting followed a transformation from A Winter Fantasy and Bedells and cast performed a dance intended to represent the opening of spring. Date: 1919

Beautifully illustrated Tatler cover for their Spring Fashions Number, 1954. An elegant woman with a chic hat, delicately sniffs a bunch of spring flowers although, considering she's in a park, one cannot help wondering if she's pilfered them from the municipal flower beds? Date: 1954

Paris Fashions, 1924 by drawn by Peroud

An illustration, by Peroud, originally drawn for The Tatler's counterpart, Eve - The Lady's Pictorial. Special artists were engaged in Paris and advance models of designs were sketched in the salons of famous couturiers such as Poiret, Lucien Lelong, Madeleine and Madeleine, Charlotte, Martial et Armand etc. Left to right is a three quarter coat of light material over an afternoon frock of black taffeta, with hat to match; jumper frock of mauve crepe marocain with touches of black, and loose transparent sleeves of ninon; grey taffetas embroidered with rosebuds; brown glace frock with an old-world air and flounces; a tailor-made suit of blue rep; and a straight up and down gown of black wool marocain.
