Chinese men having their pigtails cut off, 1911
Abolishing the badge of servitude, Chinese men having their pigtails publicly cut off. The pigtail was of Manchu origin, and enforced when the dynasty conquered China in 1627. The Chinese rebellion of 1911, also known as the Xinhai Revolution, saw the end of 2000 years Imperial rule and the establishment of the Republic of China. Date: 1911
