For Love - and the King by C Watson Mill

Promotional postcard featuring a scene from For Love - and the King by C Watson Mill which was first performed at the Prince of Wales theatre, Mexborough, South Yorkshire on 13th April 1908. He woos Natilla, supposedly a misers daughter reduced to beggary, but really the daughter of the king. The English soldier of fortune, Jarval, prevents the miser from beating Natilla. He helps the Prince to win Natilla, despite loving her himself. Watson Mill wrote the role of Jarval for himself. Date: circa 1908
