Inside of ration book for motor spirit, September 1939
Coupons for petrol found inside a ration book issued by Surrey County Council, 5 September 1939. Petrol rations were based on the horsepower of a vehicle, with those of higher engine speeds having access to greater volumes of fuel. This ration book belonged to the owner of an eight-nine horsepower vehicle and subsequently contains coupons for two "units", i.e. two gallons.

Lantern slide showing a compo ration dump and men carrying more supplies to it, March 1943.From a collection of British official war photographs relating to the 78th Division that were given to the 78th Division Battleaxe Club, who then developed slides of them.Associated with World War Two, North Africa (1940-1943).Composite Rations, also known as the 14-Man Ration, were used to feed troops in the period between the issue of the individual 24 hour ration and the establishment of field kitchens for various units. The ?compo? ration came in a wooden crate and contained tinned and packaged food. Date: 1943
