A beautiful portrait study of the Consort of the Regent of Yugoslavia. H.R.H., the former Princess Olga, was a sister of H.R.H. the Duchess of Kent and the eldest of the three daughters of Prince Nicholas of Greece. She was married to Prince Paul in 1923. It was in 1934 that Prince Paul was appointed Regent of Yugoslavia during the minority of the young King Peter who succeeded on the assassination of King Alexander in Marseilles in 1934

Ellen Jane Goldsack, known as Goldie, second wife of the Italian artist, Fortunino Matania painted wearing a sumptuous Renaissance dress and holding a prayer book in one hand. This painting is an excellent example of the lengths Matania went to, in terms of costume and props, in recreating historical period for his pictures. Date: c.1955

Belgian war orphans with Father Syoens WWI

Group photograph of Belgian war orphan children brought to Detroit, U.S.A during World War One. Father Syoens, pastor of Our Lady of Sorrows, Roman Catholic Church, went to Eastern Flanders on a mission of mercy and brought back 116 Belgian war orphans. The children shown in the photograph at the immigration station were placed with families already established in the area and settled on Detroit.
