Suffragette Arson Rivington Pike

Suffragette Arson Rivington Pike. The ruins of the bungalow built by William Hesketh Lever, the industrialist and 'soap magnate', at Rivington Pike, near Bolton. It was burnt down by a lone, militant suffragette, Edith Rigby (1872-1949) on 7th July 1913. She confessed to the police, was convicted and sentenced to nine months hard labour. Date: 1913

Drake by Louis N. Parker. For the revival. His Majestys Theatre is written on the front of the card and 1915 on the reverse, but the run ended on 11th November 1914. Fires on the Spanish coast blaze in the distance? The caption below reads "England is Watching". The image corresponds most closely to Act III scene 2 On board The Revenge at sea. Three women police officers in uniform, London

Three female Metropolitan Police officers pose in their uniforms (winter dress, with overcoats) -- an inspector, a sergeant and a constable. The women are Constable Violet Butcher, Inspector Lily Dawes and Sergeant Florence Pike. The women's uniform was updated in 1931, when a white shirt and tie were introduced, the hat badge became smaller and shoes replaced boots. Date: circa 1933
