Suffrage N.U.W.S.S Croydon Branch 1909. In November 1909, the Croydon Branch of the National Union of Women's Suffrage Societies organised a Suffrage Week'. These had been shown at the Congress of the International Woman Suffrage Alliance, held in London, April to May 1909. The photograph shows a hall set out for afternoon tea as on Wednesday this was served while a fundraising red and white sale was held. Hanging on the walls are many banners which can just be identified - includes George Eliot designed by Mary Lowndes Edith Pechey Phipson (Mary Lowndes) a serpent and cockerel which represented Doctors and Surgeons and the lower half of A Montgomerie Beddo (designer unknown) Date: 1909
