Nikolai Wassiljewittsch Kobelkoff - Freak Show Star
Kobelkoff, Freak show empresario pictured with his family. Nikolai Wassiljewittsch Kobelkoff (1851 - 1933) was born in Wossnesensk, Siberia, Russia. While exhibiting in Austria in 1875, he met Anna Wilfert, a Viennese woman - their public wedding took place in Budapest the same year and they went on to have six children (pictured). With the money he'd accumulated over the years, Kobelkoff was able to buy his own amusement park at Prater, Austria's Coney Island.

First Attempt to Walk with New Limbs
A wounded British soldier making his first attempt to walk with artificial legs. The photograph was taken at Queen Mary's Convalescent Auxiliary Hospital at Roehampton House. The hospital specialised in fitting artificial limbs under skilled advice and taught men how to use them. It was estimated that around 250, 000 British soldiers lost limbs during World War I and one million worldwide.
