Josephine was a French empress and the first wife of Napoleon Bonaparte. She was born in 1763 in Martinique, a French colony in the Caribbean. She was the daughter of a wealthy plantation owner, and she was educated in France.
Josephine was a beautiful and intelligent woman, and she quickly became a favorite of Napoleon's. He proposed to her in 1796, and they were married in March of the same year. Josephine was a devoted wife and mother, and she was a great support to Napoleon during his rise to power.
