RMS Carpathia, 1903
Photograph of the Cunard Line's RMS Carpathia, launched by the Swan Hunter Shipyard, in 1902. She was the first vessel built for the Cunard Line which was exclusively for second and third class passengers. In 1912 she was the first vessel to attend the sinking of the Titanic'. The Carpathia was sunk by a German U-boat in 1918, off the Fastnet, Southern Ireland

Prince of Wales with Denys Finch-Hatton
Prince of Wales, later King Edward VIII, and Duke of Windsor, pictured with the Hon. Denys Finch-Hatton, who had accompanied the Prince on his most recent safari in East Africa. Denys Finch-Hatton, was a big game hunter and was immortalised in the autobiographical novel by Karen Blixen (Isak Dinesen), Out of Africa. He was killed shortly after this photograph was taken when the Gypsy Moth he was flying crashed in Kenya. Date: 1931
