The Man who Threw a Snowball at St. Moritz
An aghast crowd of skiiers and holidaymakers looking towards a dejected snowball-thrower who is trudging away into the distance. St. Moritz was a popular skiing destination for the upper classes during the 20's and 30's and the aspirational atmosphere of the resort is captured brilliantly by Bateman's illustration.

Piano Player - Brighton Beach, England
Piano Player on Brighton Beach, England. A lady singer stands in front of an upright piano piano (perched rather precariously on some boards on the shingle), belting out a popular hit of the day. A small knot of curious youngsters and holidaying familes has gathered to take in the show. Date: circa 1908

Catlins Royal Pierrots at Walton-on-the-Naze, Essex
Will Catlin's Royal Pierrots used to be a familiar sight at seaside resorts around the UK. They entertained holidaymakers with free shows, then took round a collection box at the end of the show. Seen here on the beach at Walton-on-the-Naze, Essex.
