Yankee Stadium - New York

A view of the extreior Indiana limestone facade and main entrance of the original Yankee Stadium in The Bronx in New York City. It served as the home baseball park of Major League Baseball's New York Yankees from 1923 to 1973 and after extensive renovations, from 1976 to 2008. Located at East 161st Street and River Avenue the stadium has been superceeded by a new ground (built close by) which opened in 2009. The majority of the old stadium, including the above-ground structure, is to be demolished to become parkland, but is still being retained for little league baseball

The F.A. Cup Final at Wembley Stadium, 1923

Aerial photograph of Wembley Stadium before the start of the 1923 F.A. Cup Final between Bolton Wanderers and West Ham United. This was the first Cup Final held at the then brand-new Wembley Stadium, which had been built in 300 days at a cost of 750, 000. Before the match began a crowd of about 100, 000 (most without a ticket) stormed through the gates and into the stadium. This meant that there was approximately 200, 000 people in a ground designed for 127, 000. The photograph shows the scene as the spectators moved onto the pitch, due to the pressure of people behind them. The match started 40 minutes late and was won by Bolton 2-0"

Children stand at the gates of the Grove Hospital at Tooting Grove, Surrey (now South London) during its First World War service as a military hospital. The Grove was one of five new hospitals opened by the Metropolitan Asylums Board in the 1890s for the treatment of infectious diseases such as scarlet fever and diphtheria. The site is now occupied by St George's Hospital
