Some British Workmen - A Brass Finisher

Some British Workmen - A Brass Finisher - play on words as this punter has lost ('finished with') all his 'brass'. Perhaps the consumption of the two bottle of champagne (pictured discarded behind him) tells a tale of a slight lack of judgement...! Date: 1904

Queen Mary Ocean Liner, being fitted out Featured Print

Queen Mary Ocean Liner, being fitted out

With the launching of the 'Queen Mary' Ocean Liner a new phase of work began. Eighteen months between September 1934, and her departure for preliminary trials on 24 March 1936, two words "fitting out" cover the whole complicated programme of work by which an empty interor shell of steel is transformed into a gigantic speeding hotel. Date: 1934

Partly finished battlefield road at Flanders 1917 Featured Print

Partly finished battlefield road at Flanders 1917

Second Battle of Flanders: Troops in the front are capturing positions and beating off counter attacks night and day. While the temporary lulls of infantry fighting between each thrust forward, soldiers are busy building roads with picks and shovels regardless of the weather. The formation of durable traffic of pack-horses laden with shells in saddle-pockets are seen on a road leading right up to the batteries. Date: August 1917
