Prince Andrew of Greece, with his wife, Princess Alice, daug
Prince Andrew of Greece pictured in uniform with his wife, Alice. He was in Command of the Greek Second Army Corps at the Battle of Sakaria. He was accused of disobeying an order and was consequently banished from Greece. He boarded H.M.S. Calypso with his wife where he was to live in exile until the sentence was quashed in 1936

Grand Duchess George of Russia - her English hospital
The Grand Duchess George of Russia (1876 - 1940), formerly Princess Maria of Greece, daughter of King George I of Greece and sister of King Constantine of Greece. Pictured at the hospital she set up in Harrogate, North Yorkshire for wounded soldiers during World War I. She had the fortune to be stranded in England when war broke out - her husband was arrested by Bolsheviks and shot in January 1919. Photograph shows (standing from left), Princess Nina Georgorovna of Russia (the Grand Duchess's elder daughter), Miss Ramsing (lady in waiting ot Princess Margaret of Denmark), Miss Steckl, the Princess Margaret of Denmark - (sitting) The Grand Duchess George of Russia, the Princess Xenia Georgorovna of Russia (younger daughter of the Grand Duchess), Madame Steckel, Mr Steckel and the governess to the children of the Grand Duchess. James II's plan to escape England to France is thwarted
James II and VII (1633-1701) - King of England and Ireland as James II and King of Scotland as James VII discovered trying to escape England. As William of Orange and his army advanced slowly towards London, many of James supporters changed sides. Even senior generals in James army, like John Churchill, went over to William. At this point James sent his wife and son to France for safety. James soon decided to flee himself, but his boat was stopped by some fishermen in Kent (as shown here) and he was taken back to London.
