The orphanage was founded in 1885 in Clapham, south west London, but moved to Woking in 1909. Now known as Woking Grange it today accommodates retired railway personnel and their spouses. On the building can be seen the inscription Supported Entirely by Voluntary Contributions

Female postal workers in London, c.1915
Three female postal workers walking through a London street in full uniform and with satchels to carry their post. During the war, the Post Office lost 75, 000 employees to military service and was able to form a battalion comprising entirely of postal staff. This loss was managed by the employment of women and by 1916 35, 000 women had jobs at the Post Office. Date: c.1915
