Female postal workers in London, c.1915

Three female postal workers walking through a London street in full uniform and with satchels to carry their post. During the war, the Post Office lost 75, 000 employees to military service and was able to form a battalion comprising entirely of postal staff. Patriotic poster, Buy British - What you & your fellows make

Buy what you & your fellows make - Buy British - for employments sake. Part of a government campaign to tackle a balance of payments crisis, reinforced by a speech by the Prince of Wales (later King Edward VIII), promoting the importance of buying from British farms and factories to reduce unemployment and boost the national economy, with the second choice being to buy from the British Empire.
1931
