Fire appliances in a London fire station appliance room
Motorised fire engines in a London fire station appliance room. Note the wooden blocks on the floor, to help stop the ladders deforming, especially in damp conditions. The front of the ladder was held in place by a gravity hook: all the main weight was at the back of the ladder. The appliance could be driven out without moving the blocks
