Ahmed Djemal Pasha (18721922) ("Jamal Pasha the Bloodthirsty") was an Ottoman military leader and one-third of the military triumvirate known as the Three Pashas (also called the "Three Dictators") that ruled the Ottoman Empire during World War I and carried out the Armenian Genocide. Damascus, Syria - French Light Tank Review in the Marjeh Square. The bronze column was erected by Sultan Abdul Hamid II to commemorate the opening of the first telegraphic link in the Middle East - the line between Damascus and Medina, and the opening of the Damascus terminal on the Hejaz railway.
