Recommended by the best physicians and used by Prince and Princess of Wales (later Edward VII and Queen Alexandra consort). Claims to cure nervous headache, neuralgia, baldness, dandruff, scalp diseases, premature greyness, soothes the weary brain and makes hair grow long and glossy. Date: 1881

Electric brush

A detailed advertisement from 1883 for Dr. Scotts Electric Hair Brush, claiming to cure a variety of ills, from headaches to deafness, baldness to a 'weary brain'. The brush contained a magnetic rod in the handle, but was named an 'Electric Hairbrush' by the Pall Mall Electric Association who evangelised the healing benefits of curative electricity.
