Stephen Wards sketches of celebrities, 1960
Through a doctor's eyes: a page of celebrities drawn by osteopath and gifted amateur artist Doctor Stephen Ward(1912-1963), as featured in The Illustrated London News in 1960. The sketches pictured here were displayed at the Legatt Brothers gallery in July 1960, comprising of sketches done by Ward, often for free, for his celebrity patients. Sketched here from life are the Right Honorable Hugh Gaitskell, Prime Minister Harold Macmillan, M.P Duncan Sandys, Lord Boothby, Sophia Loren, Douglas Fairbanks, Sir Stanley Spencer, Sir Alan Herbert and Derick Heathcoat Armory. Ward went on to produce a series of specially commissioned sketches for the Illustrated London News. Following his involvement in the Profumo affair coming to public prominence, Ward committed suicide in 1963. Date: 1960

Rosie Dolly and the Begum Aga Khan
Two personalities at the Super Elegance de Cote d'Azur held in Nice on the French Riviera wearing costumes elegant enough to win. On the left is Rosie Dolly (aka Mrs Mortimer Davis), one half of the famous cabaret act the Dolly Sisters, wearing the dress that dazzled at the Hotel Negresco. On the right is the Begum Aga Khan in another beautiful creation which was fashioned of home-made Bombay silk. Princess Andr饠Aga Khan (1898-1976), the third wife of Aga Khan III was formerly Andr饠Jos鰨ine Carron and married Aga Khan III in December 1929. Together they had one son, Prince Sadruddin Aga Khan. The couple divorced in 1943. Date: 1931

Confessions by Camera, Ms Charles Sweeny
Page from The Sketch, part of a series entitled, Confessions by Camera. This one features Mrs Charles Sweeny, former deb of the year and it girl, Miss Margaret Whigham and later the notorious Duchess of Argyll. She is pictures at home looking the height of chic and is asked a variety of banal questions. Her favourite month is June, colour - green, and she has an aversion to ordering food for meals'. Date: 1934
