Cartoon, Lord Cairns and Miss Fortescue
Cartoon, Lord Cairns to Miss Fortescue -- Delighted, my dear, that my son has shown such good taste! May Fortescue (1859-1950) was an actress, singer and actor-manager, at this time appearing with the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company. She had just become engaged to Arthur William Cairns, Lord Garmoyle, son of Hugh McCalmont Cairns, 1st Earl Cairns (1819-1885), who previously served as Lord Chancellor (hence the wig).
