Abraham Lincoln Statue, Westminster, London

Statue of US President Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865), Parliament Square, Westminster, London (now re-located slightly to stand in front of the Middlesex Guildhall) - a replica of the original piece by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, erected in Lincoln Park Chicago. In the rear can be seen The Buxton Memorial Fountain originally constructed (as seen) in Parliament Square but removed in 1940 and placed in its present position in Victoria Tower Gardens in 1957. Date: circa 1920

A Butterfly on the Wheel by Edward G. Hammond and Francis Nelson. First produced at the Globe Theatre on 18th April 1911. With arrangement by Charles Frohman and starring Lewis Waller (3 November 1860 1 November 1915). The title and image of course refer metaphorically to the ordeal of the leading female character. Touring to Opera House, Buxton on 23rd February 1914. Date: 1911

Double page spread of scenes in London of siege conditions, the great strike threatening to bring the whole railway service of Britain to a standstill. However although the estimated strike of men was 220, 000, two-thirds of the railway servants stuck to their posts, and the whole was maintained.
